Effect of root system development in seedlings of some parental components of maize for seed on emergence and survival under field conditions

Effect of root system development in seedlings of some parental components of maize for seed on emergence and survival under field conditions

Selekcija i Semenarstvo 1(1): 115-118

During tests of seed stock quality with 8 parent lines of hybrid varieties using 6- to 8-year-old seeds, abnormal seedlings were noted with an underdeveloped primary root and poorly developed secondary root system but vigorous plumule development. The behaviour of these seedlings in field trials in terms of growth and grain formation was studied.
