Effect of rootstock on the composition and quality of wines from the scion Chardonnay

Effect of rootstock on the composition and quality of wines from the scion Chardonnay

Australian and New Zealand Wine Industry Journal 8(3): 270-274

Chardonnay scions of a single selection were bench-grafted to 15 different rootstocks and planted as potted vines in 1980. Fruits from vines grafted to Ramsey, Teleki 5C, Ruggin 140, Schwarzmann and ungrafted vines were harvested in each of 3 consecutive years 1988-1990 and analysed for must composition (TSS, degrees Brix, titratable acidity, pH, malate, tartrate and K), wine composition (pH, titratable acidity and alcohol) and wine sensory quality.
