Effect of rootstocks and training system on growth and yield of two apple cultivars

Growth and yield of Golden Delicious and Starking Delicious apple trees on M.9, M.26 and MM.106 rootstocks and trained to a palmette (4 x 4 m spacing) or slender spindle (3.50 x 1.75 m spacing) system were compared from 1982 to 1991. For both cultivars the highest yields were obtained with the slender spindle training system, on M.9 and M.26 for Golden Delicious and on M.9 for Starking Delicious.
