Effect of saccharides on pullulan synthesis by Aureobasidium pullulans A.p.-3

Pullulan synthesis by Aureobasidium pullulans A.p.-3 was investigated using 11 saccharides at 5% as carbon sources. The highest pullulan concentration after 5 days at 28 degrees C was obtained on sucrose: 35.2 g/litre, yield >70%. Good biosynthesis was also observed on maltose (28.5 g/litre), xylose (28.4 g/litre), glucose (26.2 g/litre), mannose (~24 g/litre) and fructose (20 g/litre, within 72 h).
