Effect of saline water on growth, yield and yield contributory characters of various wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars

In a field trial at Bichpuri, Uttar Pradesh in the 1985-87 winter seasons, wheat HD-2329, HD-2379, HD-2285, HD-2270 and Pbw-34 were irrigated with water at salinities of 2.4, 8, 12 or 16 dS/m. Salinity decreased percentage germination, plant height, tiller numbers, spike length, 1000-grain weight and grain and straw yields. Germination, plant height, tiller numbers, 1000-grain weight and grain and straw yields were highest in Pbw-34, while spike length was greatest in HD-2329.
