Effect of salinity on germination of five cultivars of soyabean (Glycine max L.)

The effect of 9 salts on germination of soyabean cultivars Hill, Pershing, Williams, Dare and Hood were studied at 25 degrees C. For each salt concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1.5 and 2% were used. Germination percentage of different cultivars was in the following order: Pershing > Hill > Williams > Dare > Hood. Germination percentage with different salts was in the following order: MgSO4 > KCl > Na2SO4 > NaCl > CaCl2 > NaHCO3 > MgCl2 > Na2CO3 > KNO3.
