Effect of season on fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortalities of chicken eggs under high altitude environment at Gitega - Burundi

Effect of season on fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortalities of chicken eggs under high altitude environment at Gitega - Burundi

Assiut Veterinary Medical Journal (56): 120-127

A total of 8717 "Sasso" strain eggs were imported from France to Burundi and incubated in 19 batches in 2 seasons, wet (5830 eggs) and dry (2887 eggs). There was no effect of season on fertility and hatchability but both were lower than that recorded at low altitudes and was thought to be due to hypoxia. The embryonic mortalities increased as the incubation proceeded.
