Effect of seasonal variation and green cover management on soil mineral nitrogen in rotational set-aside land

Effect of seasonal variation and green cover management on soil mineral nitrogen in rotational set-aside land

Crop protection in Northern Britain 1993: Proceedings of a Conference , Dundee University, 23-25 March 1993: 241-246

The effect of cover crops on NO3-N leaching, soil residual N and subsequent crops N requirements was studied in a 3 years field experiment (rotations and set-aside land) in Scotland, UK. Results showed that soil mineral N to a depth of 30 cm was available for autumn-sown oilseed rape, barley and wheat. In the set-aside field available N ranged from 4.3 kg/ha under grasses and 48.2 kg/ha under Medicago, 2 years later.
