Effect of seasons and plant densities on yield and economics of mungbean and urdbean genotypes

In a field experiment in 1983-84 at Morena, Madhya Pradesh, 4 cultivars each of mung beans and urd beans were sown on 5 or 20 Mar., 4 Apr. or the onset of monsoon (2nd week in July) at densities of 400 000, 600 000, 800 000 or 1 000 000 plants/ha. Optimum dates for sowing mung beans and urd beans were 5 Mar. and the onset of monsoon, respectively. At these 2 dates, mung beans K 851 and urd beans PU 19 gave the highest yield and the highest net return.
