Effect of seed irradiation on some plant characteristics of winged bean

Dry seeds of winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) Chimbu were exposed to different doses of gamma rays (10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 krad) to study the effect on 6 plant characteristics. The results showed that there was a greater reduction at higher doses compared to lower doses for all the characters. There was no definite trend in the effect on vigour index (calculated by multiplying normal germination percentage with hypocotyl length), but there was a greater reduction at higher doses.
