Effect of seed maturity on germination and vigour in Impatiens balsamina L

In studies with the cultivars Super Elfin Pink and Super Elfin Twilight, seeds were harvested at 14, 16, 18, 20 or 22 days after pollination and dried at 36 degrees C and 40% RH for 24 h, or at 20 degrees and 60% RH for 72 h. Five durations of post-drying treatment were compared, viz. 0, 24, 48, 72 or 96 h at 25 degrees and 30% RH. The seeds were then held in closed polyethylene bags at 5 degrees for 2 weeks.
