Effect of seed rate and weed-management practice on nodulation and yield of chickpea (Cicer arietinum)

In a field experiment during the winter season of 1987/88 at Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, chickpeas Type 3 were sown at 75, 100 or 125 kg seed/ha and not weeded, hand weeded 25 and 45 d after sowing (DAS) or given 1 kg fluchloralin/ha with or without hand weeding 25 DAS. On average, seed yield decreased with increasing sowing rate. The highest seed yield of 2.41 t/ha was obtained with the sowing rate of 75 kg seed/ha + hand weeding 25 and 45 DAS.
