Effect of seed rate on forage production and quality of forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) varieties

In a field experiment during the monsoon seasons of 1987-90 at Anand, Gujarat, sorghum GFS 3, MP Chari, SSG59-3 and S 1049 were sown at the rates of 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 kg seed/ha. MP Chari gave the highest mean DM yield of 11.54 t/ha and S 1049 the lowest (7.40 t). SSG 50-3 gave the highest CP yield (0.85 t/ha), followed by MP Chari. Sowing rates of 60, 80 and 100 kg seed/ha gave significantly higher DM yields than sowing rates of 20 and 40 kg seed/ha.
