Effect of seed vigour on emergence and yield in soyabean

Seedling vigour test results from 3 varieties on seed with high and low germination after cold storage were compared with emergence and seed yield of plants in the field. Emergence was closely correlated with germination and percentage of vigorous seedlings in laboratory tests, but yield was less predictable. Seed of Century with germination of 84% resulted in a yield of 239.7 g/msuperscript 2, which was 78.2% higher than the yield from seed with 44% germination.
