Effect of seeding environments on irrigation requirement and yield of kuruvai rice in double cropping low lands of Thanjavur

In a field experiment in 1984-85 at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, rice TKM.9 sown directly (broadcast or drilled), with sprouted seeds, or transplanted on the same date as direct sowing gave grain yields of 5.55, 5.20, 4.93 and 5.56 t/ha, resp., compared with 4.33 t from the farmer's practice (of raising seedlings in a nursery after the receipt of water and transplanting).
