Effect of site on the growth of Pinus uncinata

Effect of site on the growth of Pinus uncinata

Schweizerische Zeitschrift fur Forstwesen 145(9): 739-755

In studies in 15 pure Pinus uncinata stands in the French Alps, the effects were studied of altitude (1390-2080 m), soil type (calcareous and siliceous soils) and aspect (N. and S.) on height growth and radial increment. Maximum rates of radial increment were achieved at age 10-30 yr, i.e. 1.0-1.7 mm p.a., decreasing to 0.5-1.1 mm p.a. by age 100 yr.
