Effect of slow soil dehydration on osmotic adjustment, photosynthesis and membrane lipid peroxidation in winter wheat

The osmotic adjustment ability of leaves increased by 0.29 MPa in winter wheat Changle and by 0.19 MPa in Lumai 5 as soil dehydrated. Photosynthesis was inhibited with severe soil dehydration because there was a process of transformation from stomatal limitation to nonstomatal limitation. Osmotic adjustment contributed to maintenance of photosynthesis under water stress and restoration of photosynthesis after rewatering.
