Effect of sodium cromoglicate on calf diarrhoea

Effect of sodium cromoglicate on calf diarrhoea

Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association 48(4): 246-249

Sixty-four Holstein calves, 24.5 days of age (mean), which were fed daily 4 litres of milk replacer containing 4% modified soyabean protein, were examined for the incidence of diarrhoea and protective effect of sodium cromoglicate (SC). Calves with significant increases in blood ammonia (BA) within 10 min after feeding (Group A, n = 12) showed a higher incidence of diarrhoea (59.3%), whereas the incidence was lower (12.5%) in those with decreased BA (Group B, n=16).
