Effect of soil drought on ethylene evolution, polyamine accumulation and cell membranes in the flag leaf of winter wheat

In pot experiments, water stress increased ethylene evolution and polyamine contents in expanding flag leaves of wheat. Contents of spermine and spermidine decreased at the end of grain filling. Lipid peroxidation decreased when the flag leaves were sprayed with 500 mg spermidine/litre. Water stress increased malondialdehyde content and permeability of the plasmalemma, and decreased linolenic acid content.
