Effect of soil erosion on crop yield in Indiana: results of a 10 year study

A 10-year field study in Benton, Montgomery and Whitley Counties, Indiana, examined the effects of soil erosion on maize and soyabean yields. The soil types at the 3 sites were Corwin (Typic Argiudoll), Miami (Typic Hapludalf) and Morley (Typic Hapludalf), respectively. Plots with slight, moderate and severe erosion were evaluated on each soil. Compared with slight erosion, maize yield was decreased by 18, 14 and 9% by severe erosion on the Miami, Morley and Corwin soils, respectively.
