Scarcity of suitable planting materials limits economic and large scale pineapple production in Nigeria. In this study, the effects of soil water potentials of -0.01, -0.02, -0.05 and -0.07 MPa and 3 sizes of stump cuttings (20-25, 30-35 or 40-45 g) as propagules on root initiation and growth of pineapple Smooth Cayenne plantlets grown in an Ibadan series soil in greenhouse conditions from Oct. 1990 to Mar. 1991 and June-Nov. 1991 were investigated.
