Effect of soil properties on accumulation of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in the forest floor in three Norway spruce stands

A study was conducted on three forest sites (Picea abies) in Denmark on the effect of soil properties on the accumulation of C, N and P in the forest floor. Litter production was considered approximately equal among the three sites but the different accumulation rates implied different rates of litter decomposition. Soil properties were considered to affect decomposition rates indirectly through control of population size and composition of soil fauna and microflora.
