Effect of soil solarization on winter planting of potato, cauliflower and cucumber in the central Jordan Valley

The effect of nearly 12 weeks of soil solarization by row coverage with transparent or black plastic soil tarping was tested on 3 winter crops, potato, cauliflower and cucumber, in a field experiment in the Jordan Valley, Jordan. The black plastic was used for solarization and subsequently as soil mulch for planting, whereas the transparent plastic was covered with perforated black mulch at planting time.
