Effect of soil texture on the incidence of bacterial wilt of tomato

Soils representing 4 textural classes were inoculated with Pseudomonas solanacearum and used for successive transplantings of the highly susceptible Roma VE. In the 1st transplanting, 75-100% of seedlings wilted within 7 d, the highest number on clay loam soil, followed by loam. In the 2nd and 3rd transplanting, the severity remained the same on these 2 soils but was reduced on sandy loam and sandy soils.
