Effect of soil variability of Histosol-mineral complex on the growth performance of oil palm

The results of a study on the growth performance of oil palms (planted in 1987) on several soil subgroups of an organic-mineral soils complex showed that peat thickness and percentage of coarse material from organic soils were closely related to growth. Palm height and trunk girth on a Typic Tropohemist of peat thickness >150 cm were less than on a Fluvaquentic Troposaprist of peat thickness 50-100 cm.
