Effect of soil water on pattern of nitrogen release during decomposition of added green manure residue

Effect of soil water on pattern of nitrogen release during decomposition of added green manure residue

Journal of the Indian Society of Soil Science 43(1): 14-17

The effect of soil water on pattern of release of NH4-N and NO3-N during decomposition of added green manure residue was studied in the laboratory. The NH4-N accumulation increased significantly with decrease in soil water but the release of NO3-N decreased. The rate of NO3-N release was 14 times less at the 0.9 MPa soil water tension as compared to the 0.01 MPa level.
