Effect of some chemical treatments on dormancy of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) seeds

Effect of some chemical treatments on dormancy of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) seeds

Agronomia Costarricense 16(1): 29-36

In 3 experiments, seeds of groundnuts Florunner were treated with hydrogen cyanamide (CH2N2), 6-benzylaminopurine and gibberellic acid (GA3) to break dormancy. Germination of seeds treated with 5 mg GA3/litre was 30% but increased to about 70% with the addition of 1% CH2N2 with or without GA3. A 0.5% concentration of BA produced the greatest number of normal seedlings but inhibited secondary root development and led to malformation of the hypocotyl.
