Effect of some growth regulators on seed production of onion (Allium cepa L.)

Onion mother bulbs (cv. Giza 6 Improved) were soaked, immediately before planting, for 16 h in manganese sulphate or potassium thiosulphate (1000 or 2000 p.p.m.), GA3 (50 or 100 p.p.m.), ethephon (500 or 1000 p.p.m.) or water (control). Soaking in GA3 and potassium thiocyanate significantly hastened the extension of the flower stalk and flower emergence. The height of the flower stalk was increased by GA3 and decreased by ethephon.
