Effect of some medium components and light on the formation of steroidal glycosides in Yucca gloriosa L. tissue culture

Biosynthesis of steroidal glycosides (SG) was stimulated by the addition of 2,4-D at 0.1, 0.5 and especially 1.0 mg/litre to the MS culture medium. The highest accumulation of SG occurred in medium containing GA (10-6M) + 2,4-D (1.0 mg/litre) and in the control medium containing 2,4-D at 2.0 mg/litre. High SG accumulation was also observed in MS medium containing twice the normal amount of phosphate ions.
