In field trials in 1991 in Coronel Pacheco, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Avena byzantina was sown in early or late May or mid-June, and cut after 42 d and subsequently at 35-d intervals until late Sep. Swards were either grown without irrigation or irrigated at sowing, then after 7-d with or without further irrigation at 7-, 14- or 21-d intervals or after each cut. Forage DM yields were significantly lower after sowing in June rather than in May and only 2 cuts were possible.
