In a field experiment during the winter seasons of 1987-89 on a sandy-loam lateritic acid tract of West Bengal, Brassica campestris Binoy was sown on 17 or 27 Oct., 6, 16 or 26 Nov. or 6 Dec. at densities of 167 000, 222 000 or 333 000 plants/ha. High seed yields (1412-1620 kg/ha) were obtained by sowing between 17 Oct. and 6 Nov. At the lowest density, delaying sowing decreased seed yields, whereas at the higher densities there was some compensation in seed yield from delayed sowing.
