Effect of sowing date variation on the infestation of jute plant by jute stem weevil, Apion corchori Mshl. (Coleoptera: Apionidae)

Field studies were conducted in Bangladesh during 1992-93 to investigate the effect of sowing date on the infestation of Apion corchori. Seeds of the jute variety Atompat 38 were sown in the field at fortnightly intervals between March 10 and April 24. The plants sown on March 10 had the highest percentage infestation and the highest number of knots/plant. Those planted on April 24 had the lowest percentage infestation but these plants gave a very poor yield.
