Effect of sowing density and environmental conditions on emergence of sunflowers

Turrialba 43(3): 189-195

In field trials at Balcarce, Argentina in 1984/85 sunflowers Cargill Super 400 were sown to give plant densities of 18 000, 36 000 or 72 000 plants/ha and at sequential dates to give emergence by 12 Dec. or 2, 7 or 17 d later. Yield decreased with decreasing plant density and with delay in emergence.
