Effect of sowing time on plant phenology, yield and physiological seed quality in endive

Ciencia Rural 21(2): 179-190

In 2-year trials with the endive (Cichorium endivia) cultivar Crespa, the seeds were sown on 4 dates between May and Aug. and the seedlings were later transplanted at 83 333/ha. The crop received N at 20 kg/ha, P2O5 at 40 kg/ha and K2O at 90 kg/ha. The weeds were controlled manually, and the crop was irrigated. Histograms show the duration of the following 4 phenological phases: sowing to emergence, emergence to tassel formation, tassel formation to flowering, and flowering to seed ripening.
