The hypolipidaemic effect of soya protein isolate (SPI) and/or soya fibre was compared with casein, or cellulose and pectin, as protein or dietary fibres, respectively, in rats fed diets supplemented with or without cholesterol, with maize oil or lard as dietary lipid. The concentration of serum triglyceride, but not cholesterol, was lower in rats fed SPI than casein regardless of dietary cholesterol levels or lipid sources.
