On 5 days/week for 4 weeks, male Fischer rats 3 or 15 months old were trained on a treadmill at 10 m/min for 30 min daily while on a diet containing 20% casein or soya protein isolate (SPI). Proliferations of peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) with phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) and concanavalin A (ConA) were much lower in old than in young rats regardless of type of dietary protein.
