Effect of soya protein on renal haemodynamics and urinary albumin excretion in spontaneously developed diabetic WBN/Kob rats

Diabetic WBN/Kob and control Wistar rats 10 months old in metabolic cages were fed for 4 consecutive weeks on a control diet with 20% crude protein, a diet with 40% soya protein, a diet with 40% pork protein and the soya protein diet again. In both types of rat, urinary albumin excretion (UAE), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) excretion and creatinine clearance rate (CCR) as an index of glomerular filtration rate decreased significantly with pork protein compared with soya protein.
