Effect of spacings and varieties on yield and quality of bidi tobacco and their influence on succeeding summer groundnut

In a field trial in 1991/92 at Anand, Gujarat, tobacco A-119, GT-5 and 103-9-101 were grown in 60 x 60, 75 or 90 cm spacings. Cured leaf yield was not affected by plant spacing, although nicotine content was highest under the widest plant spacing. Cured leaf yield and nicotine content were highest in GT-5. Pod yield, shelling percentage and oil percentage of the following groundnut crop were unaffected by tobacco spacing and cultivar.
