Wheat HD 1553 grown at Morena, Madhya Pradesh in the 1989-91 winter seasons was given 120 kg N/ha as urea applied basally or in 2 splits (half basal and half top-dressed before or after irrigation), or modified urea (coated with 5 ml neem oil or nimin/kg urea, or mixed with 100 g FYM/kg urea) was applied basally. Grain yield in both years was lowest when all the urea was applied basally, and highest from neem oil-coated urea.
