Effect of stage of umbel picking and nitrogen fertilization on fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)

The experiment was conducted during the winter seasons of 1985-88. Umbels were picked at 3 stages of development (half-length seed, full-length green seed and full-length mature seed turning yellow) and the plants received 4 N treatments (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg/ha). Maximum yield was achieved by picking full-length green seed (12.26 q/ha) followed by full-length mature seed turning yellow (12.13 q/ha), followed by half-length seed (9.30 q/ha).
