Effect of starvation upon the anomeric specificity of glucose-induced insulin release

The effects of the anomers of D-glucose (3.3 mM) on insulin and glucagon secretion were examined in isolated perfused pancreas from fed female Wistar rats and rats starved for 2 days. Basal insulin release recorded in the presence of L-leucine (10.0 mM) was not significantly affected by starvation, whereas basal glucagon output was almost three times higher in starved than in fed rats.
