Effect of storage conditions and seed production time on seed germination in strawberry



Bulletin of the National Research Institute of Vegetables, Ornamental Plants and Tea Series A: Vegetables and Ornamental Plants ( 9): 41-49



Seeds of the strawberry cultivars Hokowase, Rieko, Harunoka, Toyonoka and Hinomine were stored at 4-6 or 10-30 degrees C for 0-14.5 months, with or without prior scarification for 10 min in 99% sulfuric acid. Scarified seeds, which were produced in Apr., maintained an average of 70% germination after 5 months' storage at 4-6 degrees , and were considered suitable for use in breeding work.
