Effect of storage containers on the viability of Tectona grandis seeds from different provenances of Madhya Pradesh

Germination data collected after storage periods of 1 and 6 months, and 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years, showed that seeds retained viability for longer and germinated better when stored in air-tight metal containers rather than in loose bags. Germination increased over the first 6 months of storage (indicating initial dormancy) and then started decreasing. Seeds collected from more moist localities had a higher initial germination percentage, but lost viability faster.
