Effect of subcutaneous backfat thickness on sexual maturity in gilts

Effect of subcutaneous backfat thickness on sexual maturity in gilts

Annali della Facolta di Medicina Veterinaria, Universita di Parma 13: 81-89

For 120 gilts with >10 mm, 8-10 mm and <8 mm adipose fat cover at 170 days of age, age at 1st mating averaged 245.36, 246.40 and 266.79 days respectively and age at 1st farrowing 358.81, 362.4 and 382.99 days (P<0.05). For gilts in the 3 groups, body weight averaged 126.21, 125.68 and 118.23 kg respectively at 1st mating and 173.79, 172.38 and 167.64 kg at 1st farrowing.
