Effect of submergence on the transformation of zinc fractions in Alfisols in relation to soil properties

The effects of submergence on the transformation of Zn fractions was examined at 3 depths in 12 Alfisols from West Bengal, India, in relation to changes in soil properties. Following submergence, decreases in water soluble plus exchangeable (WSEX), organically complexed (OC) and crystalline Fe-oxides bound (CRYOX) and increases in amorphous Fe-oxides bound Zn (AMOX) fractions were observed in all soils at all depths. The manganese oxide bound fraction showed an inconsistent change.
