Effect of substrate salinization on the photosynthetic activity of germinating seedlings of woody plants

Seedlings of Robinia pseudoacacia, Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Pinus sylvestris aged 2-42 days were grown in sand cultures with half-strength Knop nutrient solution or with van't Hoff solutions of concentration 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1 mole/litre. The rate of photosynthesis of the cotyledons, primary leaves and (for robinia and ash) the transitional leaves were determined.
