Endophyte-infected (E+) and endophyte-free (E-) tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) was space-planted in field plots at 7 locations in Oregon, USA. Seeds were harvested in each of a 4-year study (1984-87) and examined for endophyte hyphae by seed-staining procedures. Endophyte infection in seeds of E+ G1-307 ranged from 83-99%; seeds of E- Forager remained free of endophyte hyphae.
