Two integrated crop rotations (with and without 25% legumes, respectively) and an organic rotation (37.5% legumes) were studied to analyse energy and material inputs and outputs in 1991-93. The crops involved were Vicia faba with Medicago sativa undersown, M. sativa, winter wheat, sugarbeet, spring barley, grain maize, silage maize and peas. The integrated systems were the most energy intensive when biomass production was analysed.
