Ethogram of porcine neonatal behaviour

, : Ethogram of porcine neonatal behaviour. Indian Journal of Animal Production and Management 10(4): 128-130

Behaviour of 55 Large White Yorkshire piglets from 5 farrowings was studied. Neonates were extremely precocial but were usually ambulatory within minutes after birth. Teat disputes were found mainly for the first 3 pairs and each of these pairs was liked by 19% of the piglets. The fixation of teat preference (teat order) was observed to be completed within 5 days. The weaning weight of piglets was significantly dependent on birth order and teat order.
