A method for evaluating protein intake was devised involving estimation of the urea/creatinine (U/C ratio) in a single urine sample. The first morning sample (after 09.00 h) was found to represent all urine samples taken in a day. U/C ratios of the first samples were significantly correlated with protein intake per body weight on the previous day. U/C ratios of first samples from minors were linearly correlated with logarithmic values of height, age and weight, but for adults values were not correlated with age.
